Jaylen Brown takes responsibility after Celtics fall to Pistons

Jaylen Brown acknowledged his role in Monday’s 112-105 loss to the Detroit Pistons at TD Garden. “Probably a little bit of both,” he said, reflecting on unforced turnovers and self-inflicted mistakes that contributed to the defeat.

Despite his 34 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists, Brown admitted he fell short down the stretch. “I wasn’t good enough for my team tonight… especially in the fourth quarter, some mindset plays… I needed to be more for my team,” he explained.

Brown emphasized that Boston met Detroit’s physical challenge. “Very physical game… we rebounded, protected the paint… all good signs that we were meeting the physicality,” he said, while noting he personally could have performed better.

He highlighted the Pistons’ defensive impact and Boston’s shooting struggles. “They made more defensive plays that led to points… we got a bunch of great looks, but the shots didn’t fall,” Brown said.

Addressing late-game execution, he stressed the importance of fundamentals. “Just the little plays, making the right reads, getting other guys easy shots, rebounding, staying in the fight… all that adds up,” he said.

Brown also commented on the physicality directed at him. “Teams try to foul hard… I have to protect myself, step up, knock down free throws, and get back on defense,” he said, emphasizing the need to respond to aggressive tactics.

On camaraderie with teammates, he described a light moment with Isaiah Stewart. “We were just having fun… Stewart is a nice guy,” Brown said, showing how team chemistry remains intact despite a hard-fought loss.

The Celtics continue to adjust to a restructured roster this season, and Brown acknowledged the growing responsibility in close games. “I take accountability… tonight wasn’t my best, but we’ll watch film and be ready for the next one,” he said.

Boston fell to 15-11 following the defeat, struggling from three-point range and unable to overcome Cade Cunningham’s 32-point, 10-rebound performance. The team now aims to regroup ahead of Friday’s home matchup against the Miami Heat.
