Jaylen Brown does not expect to represent the United States national basketball team again, suggesting that factors beyond his basketball ability could prevent him from receiving another opportunity.

Speaking on his livestream, the Philadelphia 76ers star described representing his country as a major honor but acknowledged uncertainty about his international future.

“I think it’s a great honor to represent your country. Unfortunately, I’ve had that experience, and we lost in the FIBA World Cup. And then I wanted to get that experience again,” Brown said, via Basketball Network.

However, the 29-year-old indicated that he does not anticipate being selected for the national team anytime soon.

“I don’t think I will, just, you know, I think just because of other reasons, I don’t think I’ll be able to play for the USA team,” Brown stated.

Brown’s senior national-team experience came at the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup in China. The United States finished seventh, its worst result in the competition’s history at the time, after losing to France in the quarterfinals and suffering further defeats in the classification round.

Brown averaged 7.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.4 assists in eight appearances, shooting 44.8% from the field and 35.3% from three-point range. He also represented the United States at the 2015 FIBA Americas Under-18 Championship.

Despite his limited senior international experience, Brown has developed into one of the NBA’s leading two-way players. He recorded career highs of 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game during the 2025-26 regular season with the Boston Celtics, shooting 47.7% from the field.

He also averaged 25.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists in seven playoff appearances during the 2026 postseason.

Brown enters the 2026-27 season with a new team after joining the 76ers in a blockbuster trade with Boston. The deal sent Paul George and multiple draft picks to the Celtics, bringing Brown to Philadelphia after nine seasons in Boston.

The move was followed by LeBron James’ decision to sign with the 76ers on a veteran-minimum contract, creating a star-studded lineup alongside Brown, Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.
