The San Antonio Spurs are particularly formidable when they develop their rookies, newcomers, and young stars, led by Victor Wembanyama.

Now, the franchise might have found another future star with their second overall pick, Dylan Harper, who made a fantastic preseason debut, potentially forming a future duo with the French superstar.

“You throw it up, and you think you threw it too high,” Harper joked. “Then he catches it and you’re like: ‘It’s a little too low.’ (You just have to) throw where no one else can get it but him.”

After his impressive debut against the Utah Jazz, he also made a spotlight with their recent game against the Indiana Pacers, dropping 11 points, eight assists, and two steals to seal the victory.

Harper discussed the adjustments from college competition to the highest level of basketball, as he is with young teammates who are also trying to learn the game in the NBA.

“I think I have a pretty good knowledge of the game,” Harper said, “but it can go to a whole other level. I feel like I have the right people and the right staff around me to help me get there.”

The 6-foot-5 guard worked to find the edge where he can separate himself from the others, and he is also looking for that maturity to play.

“Everyone is just as good as everyone else,” Harper said. “Just trying to find the edge, where you fit in, is the biggest thing. But … at the end of the day, it’s just basketball. You’ve got to go out there and play.”

The highly prized rookie came out of Rutgers University, where he averaged 19.4 points on 48.4% shooting in 32.7 minutes per game. He is expected to make  more shots with San Antonio once he unlocks his complete confidence and potential.
