Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic avoided a major setback after leaving Saturday’s EuroBasket warm-up game against Latvia with a right knee injury.

The incident occurred in the third quarter when a teammate accidentally fell into Doncic’s legs, sending him to the floor in visible discomfort. He limped to the locker room, sparking concern among Slovenia supporters and Lakers fans alike.

NBA insider Marc Stein reported that Doncic has been diagnosed with a right knee contusion, but the injury is not considered serious. Slovenia’s basketball federation announced he is expected back at practice on Monday.

While his status remains uncertain for Tuesday’s friendly against Great Britain, the update provided relief after initial fears of something more severe. Doncic returned to the bench in the second half and even expressed interest in rejoining the game, though coaches declined to risk it.

The All-Star’s presence remains vital for Slovenia as the team prepares for EuroBasket 2025 competition later this summer. His availability also holds significant weight for the Lakers, who recently secured him on a three-year, $165 million extension.

The new contract ties Doncic to Los Angeles through at least the 2028–29 season, with a player option giving him flexibility over his long-term future. The Lakers view him as the centerpiece of their franchise alongside Anthony Davis.
