The Dallas Mavericks are undergoing significant coaching changes, further fueling speculation about head coach Jason Kidd’s future amid persistent interest from the New York Knicks.

Jared Dudley, an assistant on Kidd’s staff since 2021, is leaving the franchise and is expected to join the Cleveland Cavaliers once his contract expires this week. Newsday’s Steve Popper reported the departure, noting Dudley’s move coincides with internal uncertainty in Dallas.

The Knicks, who fired Tom Thibodeau following Eastern Conference Finals appearance, have already had one request to interview Kidd denied. Despite that, league insiders indicate the door remains open for further dialogue should Kidd’s situation in Dallas shift.

Development coach God Shammgod is also reportedly on his way out, further signaling instability within the Mavericks’ staff.

These departures come just days after associate head coach Sean Sweeney left Dallas for the San Antonio Spurs. Sweeney was considered Kidd’s top assistant and a key figure in Dallas’ defensive schemes. His exit has been viewed by league sources as a sign of larger changes underway.

While the Mavericks have publicly maintained their commitment to Kidd, the staff turnover has intensified speculation that a coaching change could be imminent.

The Knicks continue to explore other options. Former Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins and ex-Kings coach Mike Brown have had interviews with team executives.

Kidd led Dallas to a 39–43 record this season, narrowly clinching a Play-In spot before being eliminated by Memphis. The team struggled with injuries and internal turmoil after trading Luka Doncic to the Lakers and faced backlash from fans over the front office’s handling of the roster. Dallas holds the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming NBA Draft.
