The Phoenix Suns plan to decline Vasilije Micic’s $8.1 million team option for the 2025-26 season, according to Gerald Bourguet of gophnx.com. This move will make the Serbian guard a free agent after a limited stint with the Suns.
Micic joined Phoenix at the trade deadline but played just five games, totaling 21 minutes. Before arriving in Arizona, he averaged 7.5 points and 3.5 assists in 36 games with the Charlotte Hornets, shooting 34.8% from the field and 36% from three-point range.
Crvena Zvezda is pushing to bring Micic back to Serbia with a three-year, €10 million offer. The Belgrade-based club has strong ties to the 31-year-old, who came through its youth system. EuroLeague champions Fenerbahce, Hapoel Tel Aviv, and Anadolu Efes have also shown interest.
The Suns have until June 29 to make a final decision. If they decline the option, Micic would be free to sign with any team, including returning to Europe. His decision will likely weigh personal ties against NBA opportunities.
Meanwhile, Cody Martin’s future with Phoenix is uncertain. The 29-year-old wing, who was part of the same trade that brought Micic to Phoenix, has a non-guaranteed $8.7 million salary. The Suns like Martin but may consider moving him depending on how the draft and trade market develop.
Martin played 13 games for the Suns this season, averaging 3.8 points and 14.9 minutes. Earlier with Charlotte, he averaged 7.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists in nearly 25 minutes over 39 games.
Phoenix is expected to reshape its roster following a disappointing 36–46 record and missing the playoffs. The team recently traded Kevin Durant to Houston, acquiring young talent and draft picks.
The Suns aim to build around Devin Booker and Bradley Beal while exploring trade possibilities, with Martin potentially included in a larger deal. The 2025 NBA Draft on June 25 may accelerate trade talks.
