The Phoenix Suns have traded 15-time All-Star Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets in a major shake-up just days before the start of the 2025 NBA playoffs.

According to NBA insider Shams Charania, the Suns will receive Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, and five second-rounders in return.

Durant, 36, averaged 26.6 points over 75 games this season and now joins a Rockets team that finished second in the Western Conference with a 52–30 record.

The move pairs Durant with Houston’s rising core, including Alperen Sengun, Jabari Smith Jr., and Fred VanVleet, creating one of the most balanced rosters in the conference.

Houston becomes a legitimate title threat behind a deep rotation and a now-proven superstar in Durant, who has won two Finals MVPs.

For Phoenix, the trade signals a shift in direction following a disappointing 36–46 season that left them 11th in the West and out of the postseason.

The Suns land a 23-year-old scorer in Green to form a dynamic backcourt with Devin Booker, along with Brooks, a strong defensive presence on the wing.

With three first-round picks and eight second-rounders now available, Phoenix gains significant trade flexibility heading into the offseason.

Sources confirmed that Phoenix had held discussions with both the Rockets and Heat in recent days but ultimately favored Houston’s mix of youth and win-now contributors.

Miami’s offers reportedly focused more on veteran talent and draft compensation, which failed to meet the Suns’ asking price.

Durant had privately expressed interest in joining San Antonio, but the Spurs were unwilling to include key young pieces in any offer.

Despite that, Phoenix maintained leverage and struck a deal with Houston that satisfies both short- and long-term goals.

The Rockets, who have not reached the Western Conference Finals since 2018, now aim to make a deep postseason run behind their newest acquisition.

Durant remains under contract through the 2025-26 season with a $54.7 million salary next year.
