Former Sacramento Kings general manager Monte McNair is joining the Los Angeles Clippers in an advisory role, according to a report by Shams Charania.
McNair, named NBA Executive of the Year for the 2022–23 season, mutually parted ways with the Kings following their Play-In Tournament loss to the Dallas Mavericks.
His new position with the Clippers comes as the franchise enters a pivotal offseason after a 50-win campaign.
The executive spent five seasons leading basketball operations in Sacramento, where he orchestrated the trade for Domantas Sabonis and hired 2023 Coach of the Year Mike Brown.
McNair helped guide the Kings to a 48–34 record in 2022–23, ending the league’s longest playoff drought at 16 seasons.
However, the team regressed during the 2024–25 campaign amid coaching instability and a midseason trade that sent De’Aaron Fox to the San Antonio Spurs.
After Mike Brown was dismissed in December, assistant Doug Christie stepped in but went 9–17 down the stretch, and the Kings missed the playoffs for the 18th time in 19 years.
McNair’s reputation for rebuilding rosters and navigating complex transactions could play a key role in shaping the next phase of Clippers basketball.
The team clinched the No. 5 seed in the Western Conference with a 50–32 record but faces key decisions regarding James Harden, Kawhi Leonard’s health, and future roster flexibility.
The Clippers’ front office is led by president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank.
