The NBA is set to unveil the winner of its 2025 Coach of the Year award on Monday evening, according to a tweet from the league’s public relations team.
This year’s finalists are Kenny Atkinson of the Cleveland Cavaliers, J.B. Bickerstaff of the Detroit Pistons, and Ime Udoka of the Houston Rockets – each of whom has earned praise for exceeding expectations and helping transform their respective franchises.
Among the three, Atkinson is widely viewed as the front-runner. After taking over the Cavaliers, he guided them to the best record in the Eastern Conference, a remarkable turnaround that solidified Cleveland as a top-tier contender.
His emphasis on ball movement, defensive discipline, and player development has drawn comparisons to his earlier coaching success with the Brooklyn Nets.
J.B. Bickerstaff, despite a challenging roster situation in Detroit, earned a nomination by helping the Pistons take measurable steps forward in a rebuilding season. Under his leadership, the team showcased improved competitiveness and development among its young core.
Meanwhile, Ime Udoka has revitalized the Houston Rockets in his first year at the helm. Known for his defensive-minded approach and accountability-driven culture, Udoka helped steer Houston into playoff contention, instilling a gritty identity that had been missing in recent seasons.
In addition to the coaching accolade, the NBA will continue rolling out its annual awards throughout the week. On Tuesday, the league will reveal the recipient of the Executive of the Year award, recognizing outstanding work in team building and personnel decisions.
Then on Wednesday, the NBA will announce the winner of the Social Justice Champion award, honoring a player who has made a profound impact through advocacy and community engagement.
