Gran Canaria and Real Madrid to contest Copa del Rey finale

Gran Canaria and Real Madrid will meet in Sunday’s Copa del Rey final after both overcame stiff tests to reach the title game.

The Las Palmas side came from behind to beat Bilbao 81-71 in semi-final number one.

Gran Canaria trailed 46-34 at half-time and were struggling from the field until they came out for the third quarter.

From there, Gran Canaria held Bilbao to just nine points in the third to narrow the gap heading into the fourth and from there they raced clear as Bilbao began to tire.

Albert Oliver led Gran Canaria with 18 points, ably supported by Finland international Sasu Salin, who hit 12.

They will meet Real Madrid in Sunday’s final after they beat Laboral Kutxa 86-80 in the second semi-final.

Sergio Llull led Real Madrid with 15 points as they raced clear in the fourth quarter.
