LeBron James reflected on the Los Angeles Lakers’ 123-116 loss to the Golden State Warriors on Thursday night, acknowledging his longtime rival’s ability to adapt and remain a contender.
“I’ve had to go against them when they added Kevin Durant. It’s always the same, they always figure it out, they always add someone that makes them dynamic,” James said postgame.
Stephen Curry led the Warriors with 37 points, while Brandin Podziemski added 28 on a career-high eight three-pointers. The victory marked Golden State’s first win over the Lakers in four meetings this season.
James finished with 33 points and nine assists, but Los Angeles struggled to contain Curry in crucial moments.
The Warriors built a 16-point second-quarter lead before the Lakers trimmed the deficit to eight in the third, setting up a tense finish in the final period.
Curry and Podziemski hit back-to-back threes late in the fourth, keeping Golden State ahead as James and Austin Reaves responded with long-range shots of their own.
Reaves had 31 points and made a career-best nine three-pointers, but it wasn’t enough to lift the Lakers past a Warriors team that shot 45.2% from deep.
James acknowledged the difficulty of facing Golden State, citing their ability to adjust and add pieces that complement Curry’s skill set.
Podziemski’s breakout performance provided another challenge for the Lakers, as the rookie guard punished Los Angeles’ perimeter defense with timely shooting.
Jonathan Kuminga added 18 points and nine rebounds off the bench, helping the Warriors close their six-game road trip with a 4-2 record.
The Lakers had opportunities to close the gap, with Luka Doncic making it 105-99 late in the game, but Golden State responded with key baskets to keep Los Angeles at bay.
Doncic finished with 19 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists but struggled from beyond the arc, missing all six of his three-point attempts.
Golden State’s defense forced Los Angeles into eight turnovers and limited their interior scoring, while Curry sealed the game with two free throws in the closing seconds.
Despite the loss, the Lakers remain in fourth place in the Western Conference standings at 46-30, holding a one-game lead over Golden State with six games left in the regular season.
