In a recent conversation with Draymond Green, Draymond Green talked about Nate Robinson’s successful kidney transplant, emphasizing the resilience and courage he displayed during his battle with kidney disease. Green acknowledged that although he never had the opportunity to play alongside Robinson, the presence of the three-time NBA Dunk Contest champion still resonates within the Warriors’ locker room.
“Oh, well, I didn’t really get the opportunity to play with Nate. He left the year before I got here,” Green shared. “But obviously, you know, being here and hearing all the stories—just the locker room guy that he was—and his stories, like Steph still quotes Nate Robinson stories today.”
Green expressed his admiration for Robinson’s resilience in dealing with his health challenges, both privately and in the public eye.
“This is a brotherhood we always speak about—you hate to see guys go through trying times. I applaud Nate and his courage. Number one, fighting that battle in silence, which is a very hard thing to do, but what’s even tougher is probably coming out and fighting that battle publicly and everybody knowing what’s going on.”
Green acknowledged the immense sacrifice involved in organ donation and appreciated the selflessness of Robinson’s kidney donor, Shane Cleveland.
“I applaud his courage. I’m happy for him to know that he got the kidney and can kind of get back to hopefully living his life as normally as he will. Just continuing to send prayers to recovery. Also, you know, just sending my love to his donor as well. You know that’s someone who risked their own life to save someone else’s life. A true honor, true man of courage. So I respect it. And like I said, I’ll send my love to the donor.”
Stephen Curry Reflects on His Time with Nate Robinson
Stephen Curry, who had the privilege of playing with Robinson in their early days with the Warriors, also expressed his sincere support for his ex-teammate’s health journey. He recalled Robinson’s vibrant energy and his impact on the locker room.
“Nate is a beautiful soul—I loved playing with him. Back in probably my second year in the league, he was a great teammate. He brought energy to the room no matter the situation, always had laughs for everybody.”
Curry emphasized the importance of Robinson getting a second chance at life and expressed his hopes for a smooth recovery.
“I really hope everything goes well for him—post-surgery, the transplant, all of that. It’s amazing that he has another chance at life, and I pray that everything takes so he can be there for his family. He has a lot of great kids doing great things in the world, so it’s a blessing to have their dad around.”
Stephen Curry on Andre Iguodala’s Jersey Retirement
Stephen Curry was excited to celebrate his longtime teammate’s legacy as the Warriors prepared to retire Andre Iguodala’s jersey. When talking to RG’s Grant Afseth, Curry emphasized Iguodala’s crucial role in the team’s championship success.
“I speak for both of us [Draymond Green and himself] when we talk about honor. It’s going to be fantastic for the entire organization to welcome my brother back,” Curry said. “He helped us win a lot of championships.”
Iguodala’s jersey retirement will mark an important milestone for the Warriors, and Curry believes it is only the beginning of recognizing the dynasty’s key contributors.
“It’s the first of many retirements,” Curry added, hinting at future jersey retirements for himself, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson. “One can imagine his #30 jersey will be retired, along with Klay Thompson’s #11 and Draymond Green’s #23.”
Curry praised Iguodala’s intelligence and on-court impact and stressed how important he has been to the Warriors’ success over the years.
Honoring Warriors’ Legends and Brotherhood
The Warriors’ culture of camaraderie and loyalty persists in moments like these. Golden State’s legacy goes beyond the court, whether it’s supporting a former teammate who is battling health or celebrating an icon’s well-deserved jersey retirement. The bond between past and present Warriors is even stronger now that Nate Robinson’s journey has inspired many and Iguodala’s jersey is about to hang in the rafters.
