Kevin Durant recently shared his perspective on the pressure to win the NBA All-Star Game MVP. In a postgame press conference, Durant made it clear that he does not concern himself with MVP honors in the All-Star Game, emphasizing that his legacy shouldn’t hinge on such an achievement.

When asked about potentially winning the MVP at the All-Star Game, Durant responded firmly. “No. I’m not worried about no MVPs. I never worry about MVPs when I’m playing basketball,” he said, via Duane Rankin. “If it happens, it happens. So don’t put that pressure on me to go out there and try to win MVP, bro. If it happens, it does. If it doesn’t, don’t diminish my legacy if I don’t get it.’”

Durant, 36, has enjoyed a storied career in the NBA. This season, he’s averaging 27.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game, playing 36.2 minutes per contest.

“I don’t play basketball for storylines. If it happens, it happens, man, but don’t hold me to that standard of going to get the MVP in the All-Star Game,” Durant continued. “That is not my concern.”

This statement from Durant comes ahead of the announcement of the 2025 NBA All-Star Game reserves. Durant, a 15-time All-Star, was named a starter in the West, alongside LeBron James, Nikola Jokic, Steph Curry and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

The Phoenix Suns, currently sitting 9th in the Western Conference with a 24-22 record, have relied on Durant’s leadership this season. His experience, combined with his consistent scoring, has been instrumental in keeping the Suns competitive in a loaded West.
