The EuroLeague has issued disciplinary sanctions to Facundo Campazzo and Crvena Zvezda Belgrade following incidents during Round 1 of the 2024-25 EuroLeague season.
Facundo Campazzo, currently playing for Real Madrid, received a one-game suspension along with a €5,000 fine. The punishment was imposed due to actions that were deemed disrespectful toward referees during Real Madrid’s match against Bayern Munich. Real Madrid lost the game 97-89.
This penalty means Campazzo will be unavailable for Real Madrid’s upcoming game against Partizan Belgrade, marking a significant absence for the team.
Crvena Zvezda was also sanctioned by the EuroLeague, receiving a €7,000 fine. The penalty was handed down due to the throwing of objects onto the court by Crvena Zvezda fans during their away game against Paris Basketball. The game ended in a narrow 80-77 victory for Crvena Zvezda, but the fan behavior led to a violation under Article 29.2.h of the Euroleague Basketball Disciplinary Code.
Crvena Zvezda has faced similar issues in the past, and this latest incident adds to a history of fan misconduct during games. The league’s decision to impose financial penalties aims to discourage such actions from recurring.
Both Real Madrid and Crvena Zvezda have the right to appeal these decisions to the Appeals Judge, though it remains unclear whether either party will pursue this route.
