Kawhi Leonard missed the Los Angeles Clippers’ preseason opener on Saturday night, but he conveyed optimism that his surgically repaired right knee will be less of an issue this season, as reported by Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN.
Last year, Leonard faced significant challenges, playing only two games in the playoffs due to inflammation in the knee. His condition also led to his replacement on the U.S. Olympic team due to concerns about his ability to compete at a high level.
During training camp, Leonard has been focusing on strengthening his knee and preparing for the long season ahead. However, discussions about his participation in back-to-back games have not yet concluded.
“I feel good,” Leonard said. “Just been taking my time, getting stronger and getting ready. … We’re just taking it slow, day by day and just trying to get me back on the floor. Once those conversations come, we’ll see what they’re talking about [on the best approach for back-to-backs].”
As the season progresses, it will be crucial for both Leonard and the team to find the right balance between maintaining his health and maximizing his contributions on the court.
