Adrian Wojnarowski, a leading NBA insider, is retiring from ESPN to take on a new role as general manager of the men’s basketball program at St. Bonaventure.

Jeff Passan reported that Wojnarowski will oversee Name Image and Likeness (NIL) allocations, recruiting, and support for Bonnies coach Mark Schmidt.

Wojnarowski shared his decision in a statement, expressing gratitude for his career and acknowledging the shift in focus. “I grew up the son of a factory worker two miles from ESPN’s campus and only ever dreamed of making a living as a sportswriter,” he said.

He continued, “This craft transformed my life, but I’ve decided to retire from ESPN and the news industry. I understand the commitment required in my role and it’s an investment that I’m no longer driven to make.”

Wojnarowski reflected on his journey, adding, “Time isn’t in endless supply and I want to spend mine in ways that are more personally meaningful.” He expressed appreciation for the mentors and colleagues who have supported him throughout his career.

The renowned journalist also noted his gratitude towards ESPN leadership: “I leave with overwhelming gratitude for countless mentors and colleagues, subjects and stories, readers and viewers. No one has benefitted more than me from the belief, trust, and generosity of others.”

Wojnarowski emphasized his commitment to returning to his roots and contributing to his own team at St. Bonaventure, stating, “After all these years reporting on everyone’s teams, I’m headed back to my own.”

In the 2023-24 season, St. Bonaventure’s men’s basketball team finished with an overall record of 14-18 and an 8-10 record in the Atlantic 10 Conference. The Bonnies were eighth in the conference standings. Notable wins included victories over #21 Massachusetts, #18 St. Louis, and Rhode Island. The team did not participate in the NCAA Tournament or any postseason tournaments.
