Tyrese Maxey put on a scoring clinic, tallying a career-high 52 points to lead the injury-depleted Philadelphia 76ers (44-35) to a thrilling 133-126 double-overtime victory over the San Antonio Spurs (19-59) on Sunday night.
Maxey’s remarkable performance overshadowed Victor Wembanyama’s stellar outing for the Spurs, as he recorded 33 points, 18 rebounds, and seven blocks in a losing effort.
Despite the absence of star center Joel Embiid, who sat out the game due to rest, Maxey stepped up in his absence.
Maxey’s offensive explosion propelled the 76ers into seventh place in the Eastern Conference standings, edging ahead of the Miami Heat (43-35) in a tightly contested playoff race.
Kelly Oubre Jr. completement Maxey’s effort with 26 points and eight rebounds, while Paul Reed added a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Despite the Spurs’ efforts, highlighted by Julian Champagnie (17 points, 8 rebounds), Tre Jones (17 points, 8 rebounds, 9 assists), and Malaki Branham (22 points), they ultimately couldn’t contain Maxey’s offensive onslaught.
