In a recent interview, D’Angelo Russell expressed confidence in the Los Angeles Lakers’ abilities, despite their current record.

After defeating the Memphis Grizzlies and extending their winning streak to five games, the Lakers are making a late-season push for a playoff spot.

With nine games remaining in the regular season, the Lakers sit ninth in the Western Conference standings, trailing the sixth-placed Dallas Mavericks by three games.

Russell, who contributed 23 points in the victory over Memphis, believes the Lakers have yet to fully showcase their potential.

“I think we’re much better than our record,” Russell stated in an interview with Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.

Russell emphasized the team’s ability to adapt and adjust during games, despite facing challenges with roster consistency due to injuries.

“We match up, adjust, and do all these different things in the flow of the game,” the point guard continued. “The problem is we’ve got 12 different guys that can be out there. When that random group of five is out there, the familiarity with what we’re trying to do is on the fly.”

Acknowledging the depth of the Lakers’ roster, Russell sees the constant lineup changes as both a challenge and an opportunity for growth.

“A lot of teams have five or six guys that know they’re always going to have an idea who’s going to be in and where’s this and that,” Russell said. “We’ve got a new guy every game because there’s no telling who’s going to be out there because of injuries and other things. It’s a good problem to have.”
