Earlier this month, former WNBA player Sheryl Swoopes attempted to undermine Caitlin Clark’s pursuit of the all-time scoring record in NCAA women’s basketball, using false information. However, Clark has since broken the record.
On Gilbert Arenas’ podcast, where complaints about successful white European players were discussed, Swoopes criticized Clark’s achievements.
This led to speculation, with Dan Dakich, Jason Whitlock, and others questioning if racial bias influenced Swoopes’ denunciation of the straight white female basketball player.
In a recent podcast appearance, Swoopes addressed the earlier criticism.
“For people to come at me and say that I made those comments [about Clark] because I’m a racist … First of all, black people can’t be racist; but that’s the farthest thing from my mind.
“I grew up in a very small West Texas town – predominantly white. My best childhood friend is white. Went to a predominantly white college. Won a national championship [and] pretty much everyone on the team was white. We’re sisters to this day. That’s not a part of my DNA.”
