Kevin Durant didn’t expect Joel Embiid and Luka Doncic to be this good

Phoenix Suns’ Kevin Durant expressed astonishment at the exceptional performances of Joel Embiid and Luka Doncic, admitting he didn’t anticipate their level of success initially.

Speaking on a recent episode of Boardroom, Durant reflected on his initial impressions of Embiid, acknowledging that injuries initially clouded his assessment but recognizing Embiid’s dominance once he hit the court.

“Once he start playing, I did. When coming into the league, I didn’t. I didn’t know much about his game. But when I seen him on the floor, cause he missed his first year and a half I think, or two years, laden with injuries, once he start playing and I see how easily he did everything, I was like, yeah he’s going to be a problem,” Durant said about the reigning MVP Embiid.

Currently, Embiid leads the league in scoring with an impressive average of 35.3 points per game, along with 11.3 rebounds and 5.7 assists.

Similarly, Durant admitted to being taken aback by Doncic’s prowess, noting that witnessing the Slovenian’s style of play and the support surrounding him on the court solidified his belief in Doncic’s potential.

“No,” Durant said when asked if he knew Doncic would be this good. “Not until I start playing against these dudes. It’s hard to say when a dude get drafted that he going to do what these dudes are doing right now.

“But when you play against them and you see the support they got behind them and just style of play they playing with, you could tell they going to do some historic sh*t.'”
