Former NBA star Rasheed Wallace voiced his concerns about the current state of NBA basketball, labeling it as a “gimmick.”
Reflecting on his era, Wallace expressed gratitude for playing during a time when the focus was on “real basketball” without the need for what he perceives as modern-day gimmicks.
In an interview with Alex Raskin of Daily Mail, Wallace pointed out the league’s shift toward a three-point-centric style of play.
He criticized players for their excessive reliance on long-range shots, suggesting that the game has become less exciting to watch. Wallace proposed potential changes, such as introducing a four-point line, to inject excitement back into the sport.
Wallace emphasized that the current era lacks the raw intensity and authenticity of earlier periods, notably the dynamic basketball of the 80s and 90s featuring legends like Magic Johnson, Isiah Thomas, Larry Bird, and Dr. J.
