As the NBA trade deadline on February 8 looms closer, Washington Wizards point guard Tyus Jones emerges as a potential trade target.

Insiders privy to the Wizards’ trade aspirations have disclosed the team’s preference in exchange for Jones. According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, NBA executives have shared insights, revealing, “The belief is Washington would covet a first-round pick to consider trading Tyus Jones.”

Jones, recently highlighted as a trade prospect for the Los Angeles Lakers, is on an expiring $14 million contract. The Wizards, in their rebuilding efforts, are keen on acquiring valuable assets to fortify their future.

Scotto further reported that the Wizards would particularly consider a future first-round pick beyond the 2024 draft, especially if it holds the potential to become a Top 20 pick down the line.

Washington is strategically using its trade exceptions to facilitate salary dumps from other teams, aiming to accumulate future draft picks and young talent for their rebuilding journey.

Jones, contributing an average of 12.5 points, 5.8 assists and 2.9 rebounds in 28.2 minutes per game, brings an enticing package to potential suitors. The Wizards’ pursuit of a first-round pick emphasizes their commitment to securing assets that align with their long-term vision.
