Spurs dominate Pistons in battle of outsiders

In a lopsided contest between two struggling teams, the San Antonio Spurs (6-30) showcased their prowess by routing the Detroit Pistons (3-35) with a convincing 130-108 victory.

French rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama stole the spotlight, achieving his first NBA triple-double with an impressive stat line of 16 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists in just 21 minutes of play.

Wembanyama’s performance echoes historical significance, as he joins Russell Westbrook as one of the fastest players to achieve double digits in points, rebounds, and assists in a 20-minute game.

At only 20 years old, Wembanyama became the youngest player in NBA history to secure a triple-double without committing a turnover, a feat recorded since the 1977-78 season. This accomplishment surpasses the previous record held by Andre Iguodala, who achieved a triple-double at the age of 21 in 2005.

The Spurs entered the game with the second-worst record in the league, with only the Pistons trailing behind, and a five-game losing streak.

Despite Detroit’s efforts, San Antonio took control early in the first quarter, establishing a 31-19 lead and maintaining their dominance throughout the game.

San Antonio’s depth was evident as eight players contributed double-digit points, with Keldon Johnson scoring 17 and Devin Vassell adding 16.

In contrast, Detroit’s Jaden Ivey and Bojan Bogdanovic each scored 19 points, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Spurs’ collective effort.

Notably, the Pistons were without point guard Cade Cunningham, sidelined for another week due to a strained left knee.
