Shai Gilgeous-Alexander reflects on how Team Canada boosted his game

In a dominant display, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander orchestrated a resounding 129-106 victory for the Oklahoma City Thunder (19-9) over the Minnesota Timberwolves (22-7), notching 34 points and distributing nine assists.

This season, the 25-year-old point guard has been a force, averaging 30.8 points, 5.7 rebounds, and a career-high 6.3 assists per game in 34.7 minutes of play.

Following the game, Gilgeous-Alexander, instrumental in Canada’s bronze at the 2023 FIBA World Cup and their qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympics, shared insights into how representing his country impacted his game.

“I think playing Team Canada I was like full-time point guard and kind of seeing different coverages, different defenses with the teams across the world and the teams and the teams from all over the world. I think the game is slower, it’s a lot more reading, a lot more skilled and thinking is involved in that game. I think it helped a lot,” Gilgeous-Alexander said.
