Rudy Gobert on Draymond Green’s chokehold: “His intention was to really take me out”

In a heated showdown between the Warriors and Timberwolves last night, Draymond Green and Rudy Gobert clashed in a physical altercation that saw Green attempting a forceful headlock.

The game’s opening minutes, still scoreless, witnessed Green’s ejection after rushing to Gobert during a scuffle initiated by Klay Thompson and Jaden McDaniels, resulting in both players being tossed from the game. Gobert, holding Thompson, became the target of Green’s attempted chokehold.

Postgame, Gobert recounted the incident. “He tried really hard, but it wasn’t good enough to where I felt like I was really in danger of falling asleep or something like that,” the French center said, via Jon Krawczynski and Sam Amick of The Athletic.

Reflecting on the prolonged struggle, Gobert remarked, “If he knew how to choke, it could have been way worse. He tried to. His intention was to really take me out.”

Despite the intensity, Gobert maintained his composure, keeping his hands up throughout the altercation to signal to officials that he wasn’t escalating the situation.
