Knicks exercise Quentin Grimes’ option, extension uncertainty remains

Tom Thibodeau has a particular fondness for players with strong defensive skills, and Quentin Grimes seamlessly fits into his designated role with the New York Knicks.

Grimes is ready to take on the responsibility of defending the opposing team’s top perimeter player without causing any disruptions on the offensive end.

As expected, the team exercised the fourth-year contract option on Grimes before the Tuesday deadline. It was a predictable move given his compatibility with Thibodeau’s preferences.

However, the lingering question, predating the contract decision, remains whether Grimes will prove himself worthy of a substantial extension next summer.

The shooting guard, however, seems unfazed by this uncertainty – at least for now.

“You try not to think about that too much. You focus on the team,” Grimes said. “The team accolades and all that, so that’ll take care of itself down the line. Definitely something to look forward to, for sure.”
