In a recent interview with Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, Sacramento Kings head coach Mike Brown waded into the perennial GOAT discussion, highlighting LeBron James as the unparalleled master of passing in the basketball world.
Scotto asked Brown to share his perspective on the never-ending debate surrounding LeBron James and Michael Jordan, with some adding Kobe Bryant to the mix.
In response, Brown emphasized the exceptional competitive spirit shared by all three players, underscoring their remarkable drive to excel individually and elevate their teams collectively.
“This is a huge debate, and everyone tries to throw Kobe Bryant in there,” he said. “I’m one of the few that coached both during regular-season and playoff games.
“The one thing that stands out about all three guys (including LeBron James and Michael Jordan) is their competitive spirit, which is off the charts.”
Reflecting on his extensive coaching experience with multiple NBA stars, Brown expanded his assessment beyond James and Jordan, including the likes of Stephen Curry and Draymond Green in the mix.
“Not only those three guys but if I lumped all the great players I’ve been fortunate to be around, you start throwing in Stephen Curry and Draymond (Green),” Brown continued.
“Competitive spirit is one thing they all have. They all have a burning desire to not only be better in their craft individually but collectively they want to show they can carry a team and bring others along with them in that department.”
However, when it came down to James and Jordan, Brown emphasized the unique playmaking prowess of LeBron, heralding him as an unparalleled force in facilitating gameplay and uniting teams through his selfless and team-oriented approach.
“When it comes to LeBron and Michael, at the end of the day, it depends on what you want. I don’t know if there’s a better playmaker or passer than LeBron. He’s unbelievable. He can help connect any team because of his unselfish nature. He plays basketball the right way,” Brown concluded.
