Pablo Laso on Luka Doncic: “He’s one of the best players in the world”

Former Real Madrid coach Pablo Laso discussed the challenges of being among the world’s best players, referring specifically to Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic, whom he coached previously.

“Being the best player is very difficult because, in the end, you’re going to be judged if your team wins,” Laso said when asked what Doncic needs to do to become the best player in the world. “Because you’re not playing by yourself. This doesn’t happen in tennis.

“This is a team sport,” Laso added.

“Luka, for me… I don’t know if he’s the best player but he’s one of the best players. And that speaks very well about him and the way his career has been all these years. I’m very happy that he received that homage last night.

“They all cheered him. He deserved it. He’s a great player and he gets all that back in his country in Slovenia but at the same time he grew up in Madrid since he was 13. I’m very happy for him. I think he’s having a great career. I think he’s one of the best players in the world.”
