Austin Reaves on playing point guard for Lakers

Third-Year Player Ready to Take on Playmaking Duties

Austin Reaves, the 25-year-old shooting guard entering his third season with the Los Angeles Lakers, is gearing up for a significant change this year.

Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka and head coach Darvin Ham have indicated that Reaves will be taking on a more prominent role as a point guard, and Reaves himself expressed his readiness for the transition during the team’s Media Day press conference.

Reaves shared his comfort with the point guard position, emphasizing that it aligns with his basketball background.

“I feel really comfortable,” he said. “Point guard is basically the position I’ve played my whole life until college and then obviously the last couple of years. But I feel like that’s something that kind of never leaves you.”

While Reaves is prepared to initiate plays and set the team’s direction, he acknowledged the Lakers’ depth and the variety of players who can step up on any given night.

“We have so much talent on this team that every night it could be someone different,” Reaves noted.
