Evan Fournier, the veteran shooting guard for the New York Knicks, has voiced his frustration over his ongoing situation with the team.
Last season, Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau made the decision to remove Fournier from the rotation early in the season, relegating him to the bench.
For Fournier, who played in just 27 regular-season games last year, the hope was to either secure a trade during the offseason or, at the very least, be given the opportunity to contribute on the court in the upcoming season.
As the start of training camp looms, it appears that Fournier’s prospects for playing time remain uncertain. In an interview with RTL, he expressed his frustration.
“If I knew, for example, that the coach was going to give me 10-15 minutes here and there, I know that I could make the most of it and gradually earn more minutes to perform well,” the 30-year-old Frenchman said, per Stefan Bondy of New York Daily News.
“But that’s not even the case. I don’t have the opportunity to play, and even worse, I feel like I’m being held hostage. I hope this situation will resolve itself, and I especially hope that the Knicks will give me a chance.”
Last season Fournier averaged 6.1 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 17 minutes per game.
