Mexico lands itself to the win column of the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup via 108-100 triumph over New Zealand in their classification match on Thursday, Aug. 31, within the Smart Araneta Coliseum

The Mexican squad blasted New Zealand as early as the first-half, 57-41, but the Tall Blacks revived themselves to be nearer by six, 78-84, with 5:36 left in the game thanks to Finn Delany’s trifecta

But the 12 Guerrero’s came up much resilient down the stretch to officially take their first 2023 World Cup win after an arduous pool play.

Pako Cruz’s 27 carried Mexico to victory, while Fabian Jaimes chipped in 17 points and 11 rebounds. Reuben Te Rangi’s game-high 32 points got wasted in New Zealand’s losing effort on the other hand.

Both nations will conclude their World Cup play on Saturday.
