After a promising 2022-23 season, Mike Brown is even more thrilled for the next campaign that awaits him and his Sacramento Kings squad.
“I’m looking forward to seeing how we can handle the pressure,” Brown said, via FOX Sports’ Sean Cunningham. “It’s flipped now. We’re no longer hunting people; people are hunting us. And there are expectations, so how do we handle that? I believe our guys are ready for it, and with the fans that we have here and the juice they brought last year – let’s go. Let’s get it.”
In his first year back as a head coach, Brown propelled Sacramento to finally land in basketball relevance after years of mediocrity. Alongside his star core of De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis, the reigning Coach of the Year mentored the Kings’ high-octane offense to erase its 16-year postseason drought en route to an impressive 48-34 winning record which gave them the third-best standing in the Western Conference.
Despite being ousted by the battle-tested Golden State Warriors in a grueling seven-game, first-round series, the Kings earned public regard and praise for finally breaking through while establishing themselves as a team of the future.
With a solid offseason that saw them re-signing Harrison Barnes, acquiring Chris Duarte, and adding EuroLeague MVP Sasha Vezenkov, Brown is excited for Sacramento as they target a much better finish heading to the next 2023-24 season.
“I’m excited for Sasha, I’m excited for Chris Duarte, I’m excited about our young guys,” he said. “It’s good to have the new guys, but I’m more excited about having our guys to be able to run it back and give them the opportunity to grow as a nucleus than anything else.”
