Scoot Henderson has a lofty aspiration for himself as he is set to start his much anticipated young career for the Portland Trail Blazers.

In a recent X video release by Playmaker, Henderson is pumped up with every ounce of confidence as he boldly claimed that he will hoist and capture the Rookie of the Year award for the next 2023-24 season.

“My goal, obviously, is to win Rookie of the Year, and I will win Rookie of the Year,” Henderson said.

Henderson, the No. 3 overall pick of this year’s draft out of G League Ignite, got plenty of reasons to aspire of taking the honors as franchise cornerstone Damian Lillard remains determined to get traded with the Miami Heat as his preferred destination. Should a trade materialize, this leaves him and Anfernee Simons fully occupying the backcourt of the Blazers’ new era.

But along his journey towards the award, there will be absolute competition. The likes of Victor Wembanyama and Brandon Miller can offer their own fight, while the rejuvenated Chet Holmgren is also eager to bounce back from his halted rookie campaign from last year after suffering from a Lisfranc injury.

Nevertheless, Henderson is unfazed by the challenges and adversities as he continues to eye a great NBA career for himself.

“That’s just a mindset, a manifestation that I kind of grew,” Henderson said of his self-confidence. “Never doubted myself, you know, making sure I’m always putting good energy in the air.”
