As the FIBA World Cup approaches, the Canadian national team is gearing up to make a significant impact on the international basketball stage.

Among the talented NBA players on Canada’s roster is 24-year-old Timberwolves guard, Nickeil Walker-Alexander. For Walker-Alexander, wearing the Canadian jersey holds a deep personal meaning and a sense of responsibility.

In a recent statement via Doug Smith, Walker-Alexander shared his sentiments about representing Canada, saying, “It’s just about showing the world who you are and putting that respect on the people that came before me, the people that will come after me. Laying the foundation. I feel a sense of pride, a huge sense of pride, to represent my family and to have my family’s name on the back of my jersey and Canada on the front.”

Walker-Alexander’s connection with Canada Basketball dates back to the 2016 FIBA Americas Under-18 Championship, where he led the team to a silver medal with an impressive average of 17.4 points per game.

Since then, he has continued to show dedication to the Canadian national team, participating in the Olympic qualifiers in 2021 and committing to a three-year stint with the team in 2022.
