The Dallas Mavericks have closed their doors for Christian Wood, but they do remain keen to capitalize the big man to absorb more key assets from the market.

Per Marc Stein, the Mavs still haven’t ruled out any possibilities to utilize Wood as a sign-and-trade piece for other teams. But as what the veteran insider have pointed out, this may be difficult to pull off given the club’s hard-capped situation.

Wood is currently stuck in the free agency market and still looking for a solid offer to follow up his already expired three-year, $41MM contract. The Los Angeles Lakers were linked up to him as the franchise remains determined to bolster their frontcourt.

Dallas already carved a solid offseason to improve their contention status after a nightmarish 2022-23 season upon the retention of Kyrie Irving and the key additions of Grant Williams and Seth Curry. Still, they seem not done yet to squeeze their chances to have assets to use coming from Wood, who averaged 16.6 points and 7.3 boards in 67 games.
