Monty Williams praises Ausar Thompson and Marcus Sasser’s winning mentality

In his new role as head coach of the Pistons, Monty Williams is already impressed with the performances of rookies Ausar Thompson and Marcus Sasser. Both players showcased their toughness and ability to make winning plays during the Summer League games.

Thompson, selected with the fifth overall pick, displayed his scoring prowess by averaging 13.5 points in 29.2 minutes over four games. Sasser, acquired by the Pistons through a draft day trade, showcased his skills with an average of 9.5 points in 26.3 minutes over the same number of games.

Williams expressed his admiration for the two rookies, emphasizing their winning mindset and ability to contribute to the team. In fact, the Pistons coach jokingly mentioned that their performances make him consider arranging a marriage with his daughters, highlighting his appreciation for their dedication and basketball IQ.

“I’ve become a fan of Ausar and Sass. Their toughness, we saw it down the stretch. Those two guys just made play after play and played winning basketball, which is something that makes me want to take them home and arrange a marriage with my daughters,” Williams said, per Omari Sankofa II.
