The Atlanta Hawks are finalizing a four-year, $112MM contract extension with Dejounte Murray, sources told The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
The transaction made by both sides appears enticing given the fact that Murray has been floating around the league’s recent bubbles of trade rumors and being linked to the Toronto Raptors for Pascal Siakam. As such, the Hawks cleared speculations this Thursday and locked the All-Star’s position to their main core for years to come.
Murray, 26, was acquired by the Hawks in last year’s offseason from the San Antonio Spurs in exchange for Danilo Gallinari and three future first-round selections. A feisty, defensive guard, he was assumed to become the solid and complementing backcourt mate for franchise cornerstone Trae Young.
He went on to average 20.1 points, 6.1 assists, 5.3 boards, and 1.5 steals for 74 games of play in 36.4 minutes. Murray helped Atlanta to clinch the seventh spot in the Eastern Conference, but they came up short in six games against the Boston Celtics on their first-round set.
Murray would have entered free agency at the conclusion of next season. But with his latest signing, he’ll be in contract until the 2027-28 campaign.
The Hawks made a massive move of offloading John Collins to their lineup this offseason. They also acquired Rudy Gay, Usman Garuba, and TyTy Washington Jr. via trade moves.
