The Celtics shook the trade market early this offseason by acquiring Kristaps Porzingis and moving Derrick White in a three-team trade.

Brian Scalabrine, who won the championship in 2008 with Boston, shared his thoughts on the move on SiriusXM NBA Radio.

According to him, the Celtics were too guard heavy since last season and the addition Porzingis balances that out. “I was pretty adamant about this when this happened,” the Red Mamba said.

“I thought the roster at the end of the year when we ended up losing had some redundancy. And I knew, in my opinion two of the three guys – and I didn’t think Derrick White was going to get moved – so I feel like two of the three guys are going to end up going.

“Marcus Smart is the first domino. My opinion would be that Malcolm Brogdon will be another domino. They will keep Derrick White. They know they have this money.

“They put a little bit of money in their bigs, remember, Al Horford $10 million, Rob Williams $12 million, so you could take the $36 million contract of Porzingis. So now that roster has a little bit of better balance than what they were going into this season… I do approve of the move by the Celtics.”
