Former Atlanta Hawks top mentor Nate McMillan was offered an assistant coaching gig by the Dallas Mavericks, but he reportedly turned down the opportunity according to Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report.

McMillan prefers to take a year off to spend more time with his family as he “politely declined” the offer of Dallas to be on their sidelines.

McMillan was dismissed by the Hawks in the midseason of 2022-23 as Quin Snyder took over to become the franchise’s new head coach. He guided Atlanta to a 99-80 record throughout the last three years including a trip to the Conference Finals last 2021.

Currently, Jason Kidd’s coaching staff has three open positions as Greg St. Jean, Quinton Crawford, and Peter Patton have decided to move over from other teams.

The Mavericks were previously reported inquiring about the service of former league coach and current ESPN analyst Jeff Van Gundy to serve as one of their assistants for Kidd.

Dallas has an important offseason to fulfill after missing the last postseason in a humiliating fashion. They are set to face Kyrie Irving’s unrestricted free agency and are looking to execute significant roster improvement moves which stars their tenth overall pick in this year’s draft.
