Before the start of this season Draymond Green was eligible to sign an extension with the Warriors, but the team did not offer him a new deal.

Golden State prioritized Jordan Poole and Andrew Wiggins, sparking speculations that Green could be on his way out.

The four-time NBA champion himself has publicly expressed desire to remain with the Dubs, but admitted that it is not all in his control.

Green says that he tries to make it easier for the team to decide on his future. At the same time he does not want the Warriors to feel like they have to offer him an extension just because he has been on the team for a long time.

Via Vincent Goodwill of Yahoo Sports:

“I try to make decisions easier,” Green said. “I don’t go out here like I need to show [Warriors owner] Joe [Lacob], show [general manager] Bob [Myers], what I’m capable of. But at the end of the day, we want to also make them feel comfortable with decisions they make as well.

“You don’t want to leave them in a situation where it’s like, ‘Oh, man, this is our guy, and he’s been here so long, so we have to do this.’ You want to leave them a situation where it’s been earned and deserved. So that’s my job.”

The player is set to enter the final year of his current contract if he chooses to exercise the player option for next season.

Green averaged 8.5 points, 7.2 rebounds and 6.8 assists in 31.5 minutes per game during the regular season. His numbers in this year’s playoffs are 9.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, 8 assists, 1 block and 1.4 steals in 31.6 minutes per game.
