Dwane Casey will remain as part of the Detroit Pistons, but he’ll be moving forward as the team’s newest member of their front office.

Following the Pistons’ season finale on Sunday, Casey noted to reporters that he will accept the front office role by the Pistons and is excited for a new chapter in his basketball career.

“(Team owner) Tom (Gores) is giving me an opportunity to move into the front office,” Casey said, per James L. Edwards III of The Athletic. “I’m excited to go to the next phase of my life. Time to spend more time with my family. This team is on the right track. They probably need to hear a new voice. This is my decision.”

Casey will leave Detroit’s head coaching helm with a total record of 121-263 record in the last five seasons. He was hired by them following his exit as the Toronto Raptors’ head coach in the 2018 offseason.

Per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Bucks assistant Charles Lee, Raptors assistant Adrian Griffin, Ime Udoka, and Heat assistant Chris Quinn are some of the potential candidates for the opening. Meanwhile, top exec Troy Weaver is also expected to talk to two former Thunder assistant coaches he worked with in Oklahoma City which are Bulls’ Josh Longstaff and Nets’ Brian Keefe for the team’s head coaching vacancy.
