Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards left prematurely on the team’s 139-131 double-overtime loss against the Chicago Bulls this Friday due to an apparent right ankle injury.

Edwards landed his right foot awkwardly with around four minutes left in the first quarter after throwing a pass to teammate Mike Conley Jr. at the wing. He collapsed to the floor and shouted in pain while holding his ankle.

The All-Star guard was carried by Karl-Anthony Towns and a team trainer heading to the dugout and was eventually announced unavailable to return at halftime.

Edwards spent the third period in the Wolves’ locker room but went on to support his team on the sidelines in the dying moments of the fourth period and until extensions while wearing a walking boot on his right foot.

“I couldn’t walk on it, so I knew it was a wrap,” Edwards said about his injury, per Jamal Collier of ESPN. “See how it feels tomorrow.”

The Timberwolves took the Friday defeat in a close one, having no gas left in two overtimes to overcome DeMar DeRozan’s 49 markers and Zach LaVine’s 39 points which included clutch plays.

With 11 games left as they eye a postseason spot, the club now takes a 35-36 record as they head to Toronto to continue their back-to-back against the Raptors this Saturday.
