Darvin Ham has a new nickname for Anthony Davis

Anthony Davis led the Lakers past the Grizzlies with a massive double-double of 30 points and 22 rebounds. Los Angeles head coach Darvin Ham called him by nickname during the postgame press conference to praise his performance.

“Wilt. Wilt Davis,” Ham smiled. “That’s my nickname for him Wilt Davis. He was definitely that tonight. You look at the seven turnovers, he was just trying to play the right way and be unselfish.

“I just gave him a stern warning ‘For the rest of the game you catching it in paint, you got to put that thing on the rim.’ It’s just like a pass like my old coach great Larry Brown used to say. You got people in rebounding position, offensive rebounding position put it on the glass, just like a pass.

“He was awesome. He’s just inspired everything we going through all season. He’s been, like I said before, a solid rock. He proved it again tonight. He wants to be out there with his teammates, he wants to be out there fighting.

“Him, Dennis, Austin, all of those guys, Troy Brown, they really stepped up and played big. The entire team wholeheartedly chipped in in some way shape or form.”

This season Davis is averaging 26.4 points, 12.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 33.4 minutes per game.
