Things unravelled for Slovak Republic either side of the half-time break as Russia snapped the game open with a commanding 23-8 run and took advantage of Anna Jurcenkova getting into foul trouble.

Eurobasket Women holders Spain are also into the quarter-finals by beating a strong Serbia side 91-80 in what was an intense game of basketball, where the final result simply does not do the game justice.

Like flicking a switch, Spain revved up their game at both ends of the floor and finished the game with a major flourish by outscoring Serbia 11-2 to close out what was a bruising and intense encounter. Serbia also gave up 30 points in the last ten minutes as Spain shifted to top gear as well as handing out 20 assists.
