NBA source on Bulls this season: ‘Everyone is watching Chicago very closely’

Coming off mediocre progress this season, league circles are monitoring the Chicago Bulls’ situation as told by an NBA source on Eric Pincus.

“Everyone is watching Chicago very closely,” one NBA source said. “They’re so poorly constructed, they need to blow it up.”

After carving a solid start last season behind the effective playmaking of point man Lonzo Ball, the Bulls have quickly established themselves as one of the solid forces in the Eastern Conference. But when the former top-two pick went down with an apparent knee injury, the club slowly crumbled and was eliminated quickly in the recent postseason.

This season, Chicago has been dwelling lower than .500 and picking up a 10-14 record so far, good enough for the eleventh seed. As Pincus claimed, they gave up a major package just to acquire Nikola Vucevic, wherein they even needed to win the lottery just to have their first-round selection next year against the Orlando Magic. As such, the Bulls also owe a selection from the San Antonio Spurs coming off the DeMar DeRozan trade last year.

Pincus added that the recent rumors of DeRozan and Vucevic to the Los Angeles Lakers for two first-round picks (2027, 2029) and Russell Westbrook as a buyout candidate will be an enticing scenario should the Bulls pull the trigger and position themselves for a rebuild.

With that, they may also opt to trade out Zach LaVine following Jan. 15, as he inked a five-year, $215.2 million contract last offseason to complete their possible intent to demolish their structure and start new beginnings.
