For the second year in a row the Celtics are being coached by a rookie head coach. Last year it was Ime Udoka, who guided Boston all the way to the NBA Final, and this year it’s Joe Mazzulla.

The former assistant coach was promoted to the head coach position after Udoka’s suspension by the team for the whole season. Despite an unexpected promotion, Mazzulla is doing well.

The Celtics are currently the top team in the Eastern Conference with 21 wins and 5 losses which is the best record in the entire league.

Mazzulla admits that he always thought that one day he would become an NBA head coach, but did not expect it to happen so soon.

“I’ve always had faith that I was going to be an NBA head coach. I believed in myself, but I didn’t know it was going to happen this fast. I didn’t know it was going to happen in Boston. But I kind of felt it, that it would happen at some point. At least, I had hope that it would.”
