Lakers’ Lonnie Walker IV says he is for the first time allowed to play through his mistakes

Lonnie Walker IV spent four season with the Spurs under Gregg Popovich before joining the Lakers this past offseason. The 23-year-old shooting guard says there is a major difference playing under Darvin Ham.

“Opportunities been great. I think is one of the very first times where I’m allowed play through my mistakes and do what I do,” Walker said. “A coach like Darv he’s just allowing me to do my game and play free.

“On the defensive side he knows what he wants out of me and I’m willing to take on that challenge. And on the offensive side I’m just doing what I do.

“I know what I’m capable of and it’s only going to continue to get better and better. When you have a coach that has your back and trusts you through thick and thin, it goes a long way.”

Walker has started in all six games for Los Angeles so far this season. He is averaging 14.2 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 31.3 minutes per game.
