Celtics interested to tap Frank Vogel, Terry Stotts for assistant coaching gig, but ‘pessimistic’ to make a move

The Boston Celtics are interested in adding current former head coaches Frank Vogel and Terry Stotts to their coaching staff, sources told league insider Marc Stein.

But as pointed out by Stein, the Celtics are “pessimistic” on the idea of potentially tapping the two for assistant coaching to assist interim head coach Joe Mazzulla.

Jay Larranaga, who served as Brad Stevens’ top assistant coach in his head coaching tenure for the Cs, already turned down a probable return to the Celtics camp and opted to remain in the Los Angeles Clippers.

After three seasons and following a tumultuous 21-22 campaign, Vogel was dismissed by the Los Angeles Lakers in his head coaching position.

Meanwhile, Stotts, who mentored the Portland Trail Blazers for almost a decade, also remains available for a possible coaching gig.
