Draymond Green on how he became starter for Warriors

The reigning NBA champion Draymond Green sat down with Eugene “Big U” Henley to discuss his early upbringing, discovering that his mother only made $17K/year, how the young Warriors reacted to Mark Jackson’s firing in 2014, and why this Warriors’ has never viewed the Los Angeles Lakers as a threat.

Among the topics discussed was how the 32-year-old forward, who is now viewed as one of the pillars for Golden State, became a starter for the Dubs.

“I started some playoff games my second year because David Lee was hurt,” Green said on Checc’n ~ In Podcast with Big U by Caffeine. “But I didn’t really start until my third year. David Lee got hurt in training camp and he was still hurt when the season started.

“I started. I think we started that year 16-2…something like that. When David Lee came back, Steve Kerr said [that] we were going to keep starting the way we were starting. But that’s when I ended up starting.”
