There were rumors that the Celtics are considering signing free agent Carmelo Anthony. However, recently it was reported that Boston has no interest in the 38-year-old forward.

Former NBA player Brian Scalabrine who won a championship as a Celtic thinks that adding Melo to the team would be a great move.

“Another thing that I think Brad [Stevens] looks at – Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown – they look up to guys like that,” Scal said on SiriusXM NBA Radio. “They looked up to Joe Johnson and Brad thought it was really cool to bring Joe Johnson in. I think this would be the same kind of thing.

“Carmelo Anthony who is now, watching him on Instagram, he’s kind of helping his son out, like, ‘This is what you got to do.’ He’s working out younger kids.

“I can see how there could be some advantage to having Carmelo Anthony on the roster. Not just the playing side of it, the mentoring side of our two stars.

“If everything is right and healthy for the Celtics, he probably won’t be a rotational player, but there’d be night where he has like 30 minutes. I wonder if it’s going to be something like that. Al Horford I guess they’re talking about maybe sitting out on some back-to-backs, limiting Rob Williams minutes.

“I wonder if they go… anything can happen – Jaylen Brown can tweak an ankle. Anything could happen during the season. I wonder if they really ride rely on Carmelo Anthony on those particular nights and then other nights it’s kind of his rest day, which is not a bad way to look at it. I’m all for it. I’m all for the signing.”

This past season Anthony averaged 13.3 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1 assist in 26 minutes per game for the Lakers.
